Getting a Start in Fine Art

A fine print begins with a fine digital master, and we have invested in the finest equipment available. While many studios start with a flatbed scan or film, we have invested in the top of the line Better Light scanning back camera system, and the finest lighting available for the digital mastering of original artwork. Other students pursue an arts degree just because they love the topic, planning all along to become an investment banker, doctor, or lawyer. And then there are those lucky ones who do find success in the visual or performing arts, in large part because they were conscientious and made good decisions along their career path.

Typically, these programs focus more intensively on studio work than do the academic programs in a university setting. In 2007 the National Association of Schools of Art and Design accredited 282 postsecondary institutions with programs in art and design; most of these schools award a degree in art. The tax-deductible tickets to attend the auction are $40 per person and proceeds will benefit Charleston County high schools’ fine art programs. The Postgraduate Diploma Course in Fine Art is now the college’s most popular programme, attracting a wide range of students from all over the world.

Although their areas of expertise vary, the entire faculty in the Art programs share a commitment to teaching as their top priority. The adjunct faculty are working artists as well who bring real experience from the working world into the classroom. The Graduate Diploma in Fine Arts is a tailor-made programme specifically aimed at those applicants who have already attained a degree. It is a one year full-time, or part-time to suit, programme that can turn any other degree into a Fine Art qualification. It is an excellent program for the student to explore many aspects of the visual arts to help decide a career goal. The program offers a wide range of studio courses designed to develop creative skills and dexterity with a variety of materials and methods.

During a recent study it was reported that 82% of the fine art students at WSU find employment in an area related to their field. Our faculty is committed to the idea of supporting young artists in their development of meaningful visual expression and ideas as well as finding their place in the world. Each course is uniquely authored and instructed by a devoted expert in the field of Performance Arts. Our online courses are instructor-led and self-paced.
